YSL Purple Attitude and a night at Tara

At this point I cannot reveal much except to say that the world is indeed my oyster. Today, I hijacked time in my super-cool, ‘anything is possible’ publisher, Andrea’s busy schedule to introduce him to Saul, the South African Consulate General in Milan and after building a promising relationship that will certainly benefit both my ‘homes’, CG (as he is affectionately called by his staff) took me to the SA Consulate to meet his team. The building is a two minute walk from Cadorna station, and when I decided to head back to Montenapoleone, Saul put on his coat and walked me through the alleys to show just how close in proximity his office is to the Duomo. Another reason to love this compact city where everything is within walking distance.

Back in the shopper’s paradise, I returned to the Pinko boutique as I had promised the saleslady yesterday because I spotted a nude-coloured net dress which is fully decorated with silver beads and Swarovski stones in a unique diamond pattern. In preparation for the fitting, I had not layered my clothing too heavily making the process of undressing and dressing fairly effortless. Unfortunately, I had to say “no” to the dress because the barely-there effect seemed to be way too daring for the conservative crowds that will be attending the three weddings coming up next month.

I had to be at the Sephora store on Corso Vittorio Emanuele at 18:30 for an Yves Saint Laurent launch event so to pass time, I decided to focus my attention on rather ‘interesting’ footwear displayed in windows along Montenapoleone and these are what I found…

Prada platform sandals

Giuseppe Zanotti men’s shoes

Baldinini sandals with step-like heels

The YSL invitation stated the dress code as “Un tocco di viola” to launch their latest cosmetic collection and fabulous fragrance called ‘Manifesto’. I abided wearing a Bebe balloon-style dress with touches of purple, that I bought in Canada. On arrival, a make-up artist painted a ‘purple attitude’ on my face by sweeping purple powder onto my eyelids and smearing purple gloss on my lips. Then it was lights and camera clicks 🙂

The CG set up a dinner appointment at Tara, an exquisite Indian restaurant near the Cadorna station with the main aim of introducing me to Lynn, a successful South African businesswoman based near Monza. Over creamy and spicy butter prawns, naan bread and masala tea, I learnt how Lynn immersed herself in Italian culture learning the language without a single formal lesson and how she ended up doing her Masters degree in Milan. It was a wonderful night of stimulating conversation coupled with good food and I will definitely be returning to this opulent restaurant where the owner, Ashwinder assured me that the chicken is halaal and if I make a booking in advance, he will cook me any Indian dish I desire. If you plan on visiting Milan, check it out. Visit or call 02 345 1635 to book a table.
