Milan becomes a winter wonderland at this time of year with window decorators and workmen strategically thinking up show-stopping, innovative ideas to incorporate the festive spirit into their window displays and store fronts.
I left Milan just before the sky-high Christmas tree, already constructed in Piazza Duomo, was decorated and its lights turned on, but I did manage to see the fairy lights sparkle on the buildings that house both the Larusmiani boutique on Via Montenapoleone as well as the La Rinascente multi-brand store on Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The Tod’s store on Via Della Spiga used white gift boxes with red ribbon to imply that their shoes make great presents, while CarShoe used colourful car parts together with their footwear to make up a truly funky display. I just had to click away at the La Rinascente window which made me smile. A bedroom decorated with items made entirely from lego filled the interior, while a life-sized Santa Claus also made of lego blocks, stood in the centre. It looked so real that I had to walk right up to the window to make sure that my eyes were not playing tricks on me.
