Milan’s Spring 2012 Fashion Billboards

Fashion billboards in Milan always occupy the biggest and most prominent spaces to draw eyeballs from all directions. On my last trip, these three adverts were unavoidable and who would want to miss it anyway? Roberto Cavalli’s dames looked dazzling in his haute couture gowns displayed high up in the vicinity of the San Babila piazza. I spotted the Prada Eyewear billboard with it’s aristocratic model while taking a taxi from Porta Vigentina to the city centre. The entire block of chic photographic art oozed old Hollywood glamour with a modern edge. And lastly, in the heart of the city centre – Piazza del Duomo – possibly the most crowded square in the city, was this Replay advert concealing a backdrop of building renovations – daring and suggestive, but certainly attention-grabbing.

On my way to Brera, I passed by the La Scala Theatre and took my sweet time to read the performance posters lining the entrance. I just had to capture ‘Giselle‘, one of the classic production posters detailing the cast and crew, to prove that I was there. In Brera, I spotted these quirky ‘Testanera‘ billboards – makers of hair care products and the official sponsor of Milan Fashion Week 2012. Colourful and fun, it added vibrancy to an otherwise grey day and concrete area.

After a long day of walking and musing at the fashion sights around the city, where better place to eat dinner than at Mercanti Caffe, a stone’s throw from the Duomo and the Cairoli metro stop. Vegetarian pizza, loaded with pomodori, was the perfect end to a perfect day 🙂 I sat outdoors on my lonesome to people-watch while munching, interrupted only by intermittent chats with a very sweet, elderly waiter…
