Milan Fashion Week 2012 – The Street Vibe

So it’s just over a week since Milan Fashion Week ended and I am back home plotting and planning a return trip. My heart aches when I read status updates of friends based there showing off their event photos and even realizing that I narrowly missed Lady Gaga’s appearance at Palazzo Versace in Via Gesù. I guess that it’s the price I pay for a life buttered with stability on one side and ‘what dreams are made of’ on the other and even though I may never get the opportunity to be based in Milan on a more permanent basis, I am lucky enough to experience the bi-annual Fashion Weeks, my favourite time when the city is stormed by all things beautiful.

Most people hear “Fashion Week” and they think runway shows, skinny ramp models, designer clothes, make-up sessions and lights, camera, action! And while this is indeed the crux of the event which only a privileged few get to be a part of, there is another equally fabulous side to it that allows every person to feast on the fashion pie. If you wonder what the street vibe is like during Milan Fashion Week, take a look at these pictures captured along the route from Cairoli/Castello to Piazza Duomo, San Babila and Via Montenapoleone. La Bella vita tempts at every turn from make-up booths and Lamborghinis to models treating sidewalks as catwalks and more…

Would you be content with missing out on designer’s runway shows to soak up the street vibe instead?
