Larusmiani Summer 2013 – rich materials, jewels and ice cream colours

Judging from Larusmiani’s presentation of their Spring/Summmer 2013 ladies collection today, it seems like I am spot on when it comes to hot colours because my emerald green dress blended in beautifully with the luxurious items that hung around the room at the company’s head office. Federica did mention that I should expect to see candy colours which in my mind translated into bright, hard-to-ignore shades. On the contrary, the rich silk, lace and leather used to make up the 1920’s-inspired collection is lathered in ivory, ice cream pink, pistachio as well as dark navy and green.

Masculine tailoring is worked into many of the jackets and shirts, and while these styles are perfect for more formal nights out, I was particularly impressed by their Audrey Hepburn style dress. This wonder garment is an absolute essential in every girl’s closet but what makes Larusmiani’s interpretation special is that it is cut from ivory leather; a sensational combination of edge, class and femininity. Leather is also perforated and cut into a knee-length skirt and top which can be mixed with silk long-sleeved shirts and even leather or silk biker style jackets with diagonal zip detailing.
Young designer, Alice Etro also took the sexy catsuit and reworked the all-in-one design into something truly sweet with a collar and wide leg either in monotone ivory or python print. I asked Alice to pick out her favourite design so that I could take a picture of her showing it off. She headed straight for the evening gowns and reached for a sweeping green dress with exquisite Swarovski jewel detail that serves a functional purpose as straps too.

What was blatantly obvious to me is that the heel height on Larusmiani’s footwear has been shortened quite considerably. Unlike the chunky platforms and super-sized heels of their winter boots, the warmer seasons can be enjoyed wearing strappy sandals with manageable short heels.
Federica also pointed out Weekender bags in navy python or patterned fabric.

Once again, all I can say is ‘Complimenti!’ to the team who have not disappointed 🙂
