How can we still be in January when I am experiencing the kind of burn-out that usually only catches up with me towards October? I’ve hit the ground running in all directions; back-to-back meetings, impossible deadlines and stresses that will have January tainted as a bitter-sweet start to the year. Unlike my usual self, I am at home on a Friday evening, tucked in my bed while I attempt to write more articles and recover from dismal flu symptoms.
Right now, I am straining to see the silver lining but just because I can’t see it, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Despite a major milestone coming up, I still have hope that 2013 will be a fabulous year if I can manage to meet every challenge with courage and shift focus to all the beauty and success that awaits me. I have some genius business ideas and a bucket list of international destinations waiting to be discovered. And while I can’t quite decide on whether I should buy a house, book a trip to Egypt or a Mediterranean cruise instead, I am looking forward to my first bit of escapism for the year: Milan Fashion Week just a few weeks away.
It’s going to be freezing cold still, but a bit of Winter sale shopping will do wonders for my circulation. Fabulous jackets, soft knits, sexy booties and perhaps a new bag will make it into my luggage but what kind of trendsetter would I be if I don’t arrive home with at least one pair of heels hot off the Montenapoleone shelves to walk away my yo-yo blues. As usual, I have done my homework well in advance and these are the pairs that promise to sweeten up my year…
This Rockstud slingback mule from Valentino is simultaneously sweet, feminine and slightly dangerous (The bubblegum pink will match my lipstick too).
I don’t believe in splurging on any expensive item that represents a passing fad, which is why Sergio Rossi’s Lady Jane pump is so appealing. This classic style is given a slight make-over with a colour-blocked tip and heel that makes it more versatile and certainly more fun.
And finally, here’s a fascinating Iceberg design that is best suited to long, lean legs. I love how the ‘leaves’ of leather swoop upwards and cocoon the ankle but I can’t imagine it complementing my personal style.
