At Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar

With 3% of Turkey falling within Europe, I thought it fitting to blog about fashion-related aspects of my trip. And what I have noticed is that this nation is amazingly good at just about anything textile related, from creating quality, well-cut leather jackets and skirts to bags, evening dresses and bridal gowns too. So much so, that they label their own goods as conjured up ‘Italian’ designer names like – wait for it…’ Roberto Cavielli’! – far from original….

Our guide, Zekiye lead us to the Grand Bazaar today where I really thought I would pick up a leather jacket or two but the constant negotiating process was exhausting and I decided to give up trying to buy things from men who attempt to rip off tourists at every opportunity. On the whole though, it was indeed an experience and while I did not get to stroll past all 5000-odd stores, I did get the prettiest lamp to add to my souvenir collection and even some yummy pistachio Turkish Delight.

Here are the sights imprinted on my mind…
