Whether it’s my Saturn Return or a mid-life crisis, I have decided to follow my passion and spend some time touring Italy from the the Southern most tip of Sicily to Juliet’s balcony in Verona and even romantic Portofino only an hour and a half from Milan where I plan on sinking my roots for the duration.
The decision was made suddenly and all the puzzle pieces have fallen perfectly into place, however searching for a little nest not too far from the city centre proved a lot more challenging with prices ranging between 70 Euros to 400 Euros and more per night. Those sort of outrageous nightly prices translate into thousands for tourists who plan on renting an apartment for an extended vacation. Costs aside, it’s tough to distinguish between a legitimate property on offer and the cooked up non-existent apartment advertised online to scam desperate travellers. Like the saying goes: “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is”, so do your research well. Check out the area online, find out more about the owner or management company on Social Media channels and scrutinize email responses for anything that seems odd.
When it comes to value for money, I must recommend Antica Corte Milanese, a 19th-century villa located between Milan’s centre and the Fiera Milano showgrounds only 5 minutes by car. Rooms have been converted into seperate furnished studios, named after flowers, and each one boasts their own bathroom and fully-equipped kitchenette. There’s a transport stop about 100 meters from the residence from which you can reach the centre of Milan in just 15 minutes and Malpensa Airport in 40 minutes, but for all your daily necessities, you will find restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance.
The best part? The price starts at only 50 Euros per night and bargain monthly rates are negotiable.
